A huge thank you to Ottawa University for allowing the Warriors to use their facilities this winter for dryland practice. We normally get together monthly during the winter months and do doubles, trios and pyramid practice. Ottawa has a first rate facility that we are excited to use. Thank you to Ottawa University
It’s ON! The 26th Annual Polar Bear Ski – Jan 1st.
After a crazy cold snap where we had 6 inches of ice on the lake last week. The warm weather has opened the water up. So on Jan 1st at noon we gather together at our home site, Pineridge to once again hit the cold cold water. Currently 33 degrees. Hope to see you there. Enjoy this video from last year.
In 2013, the Pomona Lake Ski Club was able to acquire 2 sit skis thanks to generous donations from our sponsors and friends. These skis allow us to work with individuals who have disabilities that would otherwise prevent them from participating in this wonderful summer sport. With the assistance of 2 strong skiers, an attentive boat crew and other people to help with the take off and return of the skier, these participants get to feel what it’s like to have water splashed in their face as they skim along the water.
Our first ever event was held in Holton, KS. We had a beautiful sunny hot day in August, where the water temperature was comfortable and the wind was calm. Attendance was amazing! The participants enjoyed their day skiing and at the end, the Rough Water Warriors put on a charming ski show to entertain the large crowd that had gathered.
This event was so successful that we are planning at least 2 events in 2014. One of the events will be to support the wounded warriors in our area. Another event is planned for Holton again.
Be sure to watch our events page so you know when our next event takes place. We are always looking for donations to help support this worthy cause. We try to supply refreshments and a dinner at the end of the day, in addition to kids games, t-shirts and prizes. We appreciate any amount of donation.
Our final ski show of 2016 will be held Sat. Sept. 3rd @ 6:00 p.m. If you come by car find directions on our page see a warrior show. Please be sure to bring your lawn chair and a cold beverage. If you are coming by boat park on the north side of our show site and anchor.
Hope to see you there.
A few weeks ago, the club traveled to Holton’s Prairie Lake and put on a sit ski clinic. We received this note in the mail over the weekend. We love what we do. Thanks for making our day.
Dear Rough Water Warriors,
We just wanted to take a moment to let you know how much we appreciated your Sit Ski event last Saturday in Holton. As you can see from the enclosed pictures our son Brett had a blast! It is so awesome that your club and volunteers make the time and effort to bring such happiness to individuals with disabilities who would not otherwise have an opportunity to enjoy boating and skiing. However it was hard to tell who was having more fun- Participants or the volunteers!
We shared a photo of Brett on Facebook and mentioned your sit ski progam. We got 86 Likes and 20 comments!
Thanks again for the wonderful event and for bringing smiles to all our faces!

This weeks film Friday, Alex, Avery, and Curtis do a tethered act with dock starts. We call this act the train. Alex pulls Avery, who then pulls Curtis. Ages 16, 10, 7. Many times they do this act while all holding a small American flag during the National Anthem. Notice how all the adults are standing behind Curtis? He’s a normal sized 7 year old, but his legs barely reach the water on a dock start. The weight of the additional adults sinks the dock slightly. This is a crowd favorite.
What a great clinic we had in Holton’s Prairie Lake. Despite a short break while we waited out a thunderstorm, it was an awe some day. I lost track of how many skiers we pulled. It was incredible to see the smiles, the laughing, and the joy. Not only in the participants faces, but in the faces of the Warriors team too. Our volunteers from the Holton area were amazing. Thank you so much. At the end of the day we estimated that we fed lunch and dinner to about 150 people.
This Saturday July 30th, the Rough Water Warriors will hold their 4th annual sit ski clinic at Prairie Lake, NE of Holton Ks. If you know some one that has a disability and would like to ski, send us an email to Retavbds@gmail.com . The clinic will be 10 – 5:30 for those with disabilities. At 6 p.m. the team will take to the water and perform a free ski show. A free will donation dinner will be served during the show. Bring your lawn chairs.
Finally getting back to Film Friday. Enjoy this act by Derek. We call it Ladder/Barefoot. He rides a 4 ft round disk, and climbs a 4ft ladder. When he reaches the top he “flys” and does a barefoot start. Many time the ladder will stay standing in the middle of the lake. Enjoy this video, or better yet show up July 2nd @ 6:00 at Pomona and see it live.
The Rough Water Warriors will be performing a show on Saturday July 2nd @ 6:00 p.m. at our home site, Pineridge. Come by car and bring your lawn chair or by boat, anchor on the north side of our site. Click here for directions.
