Film Friday – Breakdown

One of the tools the club uses to teach skiing is the barefoot boom. It can be used at very slow speeds to teach young kids to ski. Being right next to the boat is very safe, and allows the coach to give the skier directions that they can hear, see and understand immediately.

The boom can be used to teach anyone, almost any type of skiing. As the skier progresses, a short rope (sometimes called a 5 ft) and handle is used to teach the feel of a rope and handle. The last step in training is barefoot. We crank the speeds up to almost 40mph and jump in and out of the boat. If you are on the lake and see barefooters using a boom, we love to have you watch. But remember, the foot of a barefooter is usually only size 10 -11, any waves from your boat and we fall on our faces. So stop and idle if you want to watch us.

In this weeks Film Friday we have 3 footers, Matt, Alex and Treyvin who are new to footing. All was going well until the instructor Derek jumps in and a cable snapped. Breakdown.

If you would like to teach a child or maybe improve your skills the ski club offers lessons. Send us a message.
